I stayed at home the entire time my kids were in school with the exception of two years. Those two years were the most miserable time for all of us. I stayed busy but not insane. I see mothers who have to work (and far too many have to with no other options) and their lives aren't busy, they are often insane. I am thankful for that time I had.
and regarding your note, believe me, I know what you mean. Our son had a reading disability and since my husband was a teacher (now in administration), we tried to work within the system to get him what he needed. If we couldn't accomplish that from within, there is no way these kids (especially those with parents who have no idea what is going on or just don't care) can ever succeed.
I would not ever be bored, plus I could take a nap whenever I need one, which is every day right now :)
